Revenue

Definition

The total amount of money earned by a business from its primary operations before any expenses are deducted. Also called the "top line" because it appears at the top of the income statement. Revenue includes all payments for goods sold or services rendered, regardless of whether the cash has been collected. For freelancers, revenue includes all invoiced amounts. Revenue growth is a key indicator of business health, but revenue alone does not indicate profitability, a business can have high revenue and still lose money if expenses are too high.
